Collection: Arizona – The Valentine State
Arizona – the Valentine State, is home away from home.
Famous for its salmon-pink and fire-orange sunsets setting Sedona alight, contrasted by bright hazy days in Phoenix, Arizona has a grip on me that refuses to let go. There is something about those towering red mesas casting their purple shadows over the land and the steadfast saguaro reaching for cerulean skies.
With loved ones residing in Arizona, I am lured across the North Pacific every few years where I am rewarded by not only the company of my high-spirited best friend and her warm family, but also a plethora of inspiration throughout well-explored Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico landscape.
The colour palettes are distinct and heady here – sun-bleached bones, a pale peach slow sunrise and sage greens of a desert garden. Seeing my friend and her glacier blue smiling eyes in the landscape of those textures of a crumbling butte wall and the dotted motif of chamomile wildflowers and windswept sands forming wave like patterns over the untouched De-Na-Zin Wilderness. I can’t get enough this country.
My works are pastel memories of how it feels being microscopic within a landscape of colossal formations larger than one can comprehend. Thoughts of a brisk chill air as I step into the shade of a snow-capped ponderosa pine after soaking in the midday heat, and all the colours of a desert dream.
