My Dad emigrated to Australia from Honolulu, Hawaii to be with his “honey girl” my Aussie mum, with two small boys in tow, and me ready to make my entrance. He had a ukulele and a surfboard.

He taught karate in the backyard to make money, cooked pigs in the ground for birthday parties and when I was older, we went back to Hawaii where I learnt how to do traditional “hula”. On our arrival home I put out a sign that read…” Hula lessons 20 cents” and a painted hibiscus flower on it.
